Japanese riding a wave of rapid economic growth initiate a new suburban development project by clearing the Tama Hills. Tanuki, the local raccoon dogs attempt to regain their peaceful lifestyle by reviving the long-forgotten art of shape-shifting, which they utilize in a determined battle against humankind. They employ every trick in the book to get rid of the humans, but their tanukiways have little effect. Then, three elders arrive from Shikoku. Ultimately, the tanuki declare that they will stage a large-scale scare campaign involving supernatural beings. This could be described as an imaginary documentary, inspired by various tanuki myths from around Japan as well as the creatures’ actual behavior.
